Job Description

We are currently looking for a Seasonal Road Hand to join our Road Department. This is a temporary, full-time position, tentatively working for a maximum of 90 days. Working under general supervision, the Seasonal Road Hand performs traffic control flagging and related tasks in support of road construction and right of way maintenance. He/she will operate hand and power tools to include lawn mower and trimmer. He/she must be able to perform strenuous work outdoors in all weather conditions.


SKILLS:

  • Class C Driver’s License.
  • Must be insurable in order to operate county vehicles
  • Must be able to establish and maintain an effective and cooperative working relationship with other employees
  • Must be able to read and understand Safety Data Sheets as well as applicable safety rules and regulations.
  • Must be able to perform strenuous work in the outdoors under all weather conditions, which includes standing/walking, climbing/balancing, stooping/kneeling, crouching/crawling, and lifting/moving up to 50 pounds
  • Must be willing and able to wear the required safety equipment at all times
  • Immunization against blood-borne pathogens and/or other various hazards may be required
  • The ideal candidate must be able to read, understand and pass required training related to flagger procedures.
  • Candidates must be able to read and understand material safety data sheets as well as applicable safety rules and regulations.
  • Applicants must have a Class C Driver’s License and must be insurable in order to operate county vehicles.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct traffic control flagging in accordance with the prescribed course outline taught by Comal County Road Department.
  • Conduct general labor related to road resurfacing and right of way maintenance to include raking asphalt and/or cover rock.

  • Given the appropriate mechanical equipment, clear vegetation from standing guard rail, sign posts, culvert headers, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Attendance is an essential function of the job.


Normal work hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM; however, staffing needs and operational demands may require variations in start/end times as well as variations in the total hours that may be scheduled each day of the week, as deemed necessary by the Engineer
