Modern Staffing is seeking a qualified Fabricator for a local manufacturing company located in Sequin, TX:
Position Summary:
Lays out metal stock or work pieces such as plates, angles, etc. to indicate location, dimension and tolerance necessary for further processing such as shearing, burning and/or punching. Also analyzes specifications and computes dimensions according to knowledge of product, subsequent processing, shop mathematics and layout procedures.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Studies drawings, sketches, or other specifications and plans layouts.
- Examines workpieces and verifies such requirements as dimensions and square-ness, using rule, square and straight edge.
- Lifts and positions workpiece in the machine manually or with a hoist.
- Verifies position with measuring instruments, determines reference points and computes layout dimension.
- Sets up and operates assigned machine(s) such as shears, cut off saws (vertical and horizontal), brakes, punch presses, and form roll to cut and shape components to specified dimension.
- May operate forklift and overhead crane.
- Required to make most setups without assistance on assigned machines.
- Follows instructions of supervisor.
- Completes all documentation accurately.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to read drawings.
- Ability to plan and organize work from drawings.
- Knowledge and skill in operating assigned shop machines.
- Shop math skills required; ability to read a tape measure, use a square and read dial calipers.
- Mechanical aptitude
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- One year experience in fabrication preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift, push or pull up to 35 pounds alone and greater than 35 pounds with assistance.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time (up to 8+ hours) as required by tasks being completed.
- Ability to wear appropriate PPE, including hearing/eye protection, gloves and safety shoes.
- Must be able to work overtime as needed to complete job assignments.
- Ability to work in a non-climate controlled manufacturing plant environment.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces.
- Must be able to tolerate heights.
- Frequent walking, bending, stooping, reaching and climbing as required by tasks being completed.
