Maintenance Trainee

Position Summary

The milling plant processes wheat into flour and feed products. The position is staffed six to seven days per week, mostly during daytime hours. Successful candidates will be willing to work overtime, weekends and call back when needed. Also exhibit a professional image at all times; maintain a positive and respectful attitude.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Safety and Health
    • Evaluate employee safe work practices according to ADM policies and procedures.
    • Have the ability to fill out various safety work permits and work in a safe manner.
    • Perform VBS observations.
    • Actively attend all safety training and meetings and pass associated tests as required.
    • Objective: Ensure a safe working environment for both employees and visitors.
  • Production
    • The person in this role will need to develop a solid understanding of all phases of production in the plant from inbound wheat to loading of finished products.
    • Demonstrate the ability to learn new jobs.
    • Objective: Provide all departments with excellent (internal) customer service.
  • Maintenance Repair
    • Be able to assist experienced maintenance tech with any and all machine repairs.
    • Have a working knowledge of basic parts and tools used in industrial machines.
    • Read a tape measure, use calipers and micrometer.
    • Have the ability to trouble shoot potential process/machine problems before they become critical.
    • Be available to assist with “call in” (on after hour shifts) repairs.
    • Be able to visually recognize a failure before it fails (vibration, smell).
    • Able to change v-belts, chain drives independently
    • Able to use all standard hand tools used in repair of milling equipment (drills, power drivers, grease gun, grinders, drill press)
    • Have the ability to understand direction and accomplish detailed tasks.
    • Take direction from Maintenance Supervisor for preventive maintenance practices.
    • Objective: Optimize maintenance efficiency to minimize unscheduled downtime.
  • Food Safety
    • Make sure when working on equipment that we don’t create food safety concerns by the way we work on the equipment.
    • All repairs to be done in a manner so as not to introduce foreign material into product.
    • Fill out necessary permits when working in final product zones
    • Comply with all HACCP/FS22000 procedures.
    • Objective: Ensure a quality product through systematic maintenance procedures.
    • Quality
      • Do the job right the first time.
      • Make sure all lubricants used are food grade.
      • Objective: Insure our customers get flour free from contaminants.
    • Sanitation
      • Pick up all tools and worn out parts after a job is completed. Leave the work zone cleaner that it was when work began.
      • Objective: Keep maintenance shop and any “in plant” work zones are cleaned up after repairs are completed.
    • Equipment Used/Physical Environment & Education Requirements
      • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred and a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a manufacturing setting in a maintenance role
      • Extremely warm in the summer months with high noise levels and high-powered milling equipment.
      • Must adhere to PPE requirements.
      • Have the ability to work both supervised and unsupervised at times
      • Basic understanding of computers, math comprehension and previous plant environment is helpful
      • Must have the ability to climb stairs, lift up to 50 lbs. bend, kneel, crawl, stand for long periods, work in confined spaces, work with heights, and work in hot and cold temperatures and a dusty environment for extended periods of time
      • Exhibit good work habits, including excellent attendance and individual productivity
