Modern Staffing is recruiting for a professional piano mover for a piano moving company based out of the local area:
JOB SUMMARY:
Specializes in safe handling, disassembly, transport, and reassembly of upright, console, baby grand, and grand pianos. Because pianos are heavy, exceptionally delicate and high-value instruments, the piano mover would need to work together with a spotter. This role requires specialized techniques, physical strength, teamwork, adherence to safety protocols, and precision to prevent damage and maintain a safe working environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assessment & Preparation: Inspect pianos prior to the move to determine weight, dimensions, structural nuances, and potential obstacles (e.g., tight corners, narrow doorways, and stairwells).
Disassembly & Protection: Secure moving parts (such as locking keyboard lids) and expertly disassemble grand piano components (legs, lyre, and pedals). Wrap instruments securely using heavy-duty moving blankets, pads, and shrink-wrap.
Specialized Handling: Maneuver instruments using professional equipment including piano boards (skid boards), four-wheel piano dollies, heavy-duty straps, ramps, and hoist systems.
Navigation: Safely transport pianos across uneven surfaces, around tight corners, and up or down flights of stairs while maintaining strict balance and control.
Transport & Securing: Load pianos securely into moving trucks using specialized lift gates or ramps, fastening them tightly with tie-down straps to prevent shifting during transit.
Reassembly & Placement: Position the piano in its new location, reassemble parts (such as grand piano legs and pedals), and ensure the instrument is stable.
Customer Service: Communicate professionally and clearly with clients, offering reassurance and addressing any specific concerns regarding their instrument.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Physical Strength & Stamina: Ability to lift heavy loads repeatedly (25lbs.- 75lbs), bend, push, pull, and sustain strenuous physical activity in various weather conditions and tight spaces.
Teamwork & Communication: Excellent coordination with a moving crew using verbal signals and synchronized movements, especially when navigating stairs or tricky architectural layouts.
Technical Aptitude: Familiarity with the anatomy of different piano types and proficiency in using specialized moving hardware (dollies, skids, straps).
Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license.
Moving Experience: Prior general moving, heavy furniture delivery, or specialized rigging/logistics experience is strongly preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Conditions: Frequently on the move, working indoors and outdoors, navigating residential homes, concert halls, schools, and commercial venues.
Travel: May involve local, regional, or long-distance travel.
Dress: Clothing that is easy to work in.
Black short sleeve or long sleeve shirt
Black, blue, or grey shorts/pants
Protective shoes covering your ankles (ie. steel toe shoes)
No sweatpants
SHIFT: Part-Time to Full-Time Available (must be flexible - some weekends as needed)
PAY RANGE: $15-$20/hr (Depends on Experience)
